LOTHES MAT & VINHUS
With its lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the waterfront, and period wood architecture, this long-standing Haugesund landmark is one of the town’s most popular dining options. It also has a more casual space, the sprawling kitschy Matbar, where you can grab a burger or plates of local small goods and feta.
This cosy, cosseted upstairs place is particularly atmospheric. Come for after-work tapas, bistro dishes such as carpaccio and grilled scampi or burgers that are definitely a cut above.
As popular with families as with cool young locals looking for a quiet drink, this waterfront place has stylish decor, good international food and is almost always full with a happy crowd.
This shopfront space, decked out with some stunning mid-century pieces and overlooked by a photomural of a classic Volvo, hosts events that tie in with the town’s festivals, regular club nights, exhibitions, DJ courses and is generally party-central for Haugesund’s cool kids. Don’t worry: they’re friendly.
A busy basement bar, cafe and vintage shop that’s a great spot to meet locals while sampling a huge selection of microbrewed beer. Snack on open sandwiches made from fresh, organic ingredients. If you need something heartier as the night wears on, dishes from To Glass upstairs will be obligingly delivered to your bar stool.
This cafe has the town’s best coffee, with beans from Jacu and delicious scones and biscuits. The interesting shopfront space is, in fact, an old theatre that is used by the Pionerkirken for Sunday services.
Haugesund punches above its weight in terms of retail, but even so, this shop is a standout. They stock an incredible collection of cult Scandinavian labels, as well as fabulous picks from Paris and Milan. Similarly, their home range features great innovative designers as well as classic lines.
A good choice for gourmet picnic supplies if you’re daytripping, with a wow-factor cheese selection that includes the best local products as well as good French, Italian and Spanish choices. They also specialise in nuts and chocolate.
Dette er flotte omtaler å ta med seg, og være veldig stolte over. Så kan vi bare glede oss til neste gang Lonely planet tar turen til Haugesund.
